Expert talk on BNS by Adv. Mr. Sachin Ghuge

Vidhyadeep Law College successfully organized an Expert Talk on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on 24 January 2026 with the objective of enhancing students’ understanding of India’s newly introduced criminal law framework. The session was delivered by the distinguished resource person Adv. Sachin Ghuge, an experienced legal practitioner known for his practical insights into criminal jurisprudence and courtroom practice.

The programme began with a warm welcome by the faculty coordinator, followed by the felicitation of the guest speaker. In his address, Adv. Ghuge provided a comprehensive overview of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, emphasizing its importance as a modern replacement for the Indian Penal Code. He explained the need for reforms in criminal law to respond to evolving social realities, technological advancements, and contemporary challenges faced by the justice system. The speaker highlighted key provisions of the new legislation, including revised definitions, the introduction of new offences, procedural clarity, and the growing focus on victim-centric justice and accountability.

Using real-life examples and case-based illustrations, he elaborated on how the BNS aims to ensure faster delivery of justice, strengthen deterrence, and promote transparency within the criminal justice system. Particular emphasis was placed on provisions relating to organized crime, cyber offences, crimes against women and children, and the introduction of community service as an alternative form of punishment. He also discussed how legal professionals must adapt to the changing framework through continuous learning and ethical practice. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to actively participate, share viewpoints, and raise questions, which were addressed with clarity, practical insights, and professional experience.

The programme concluded with an engaging question-and-answer round, allowing students to gain deeper understanding of the practical application of the new law. A formal vote of thanks marked the end of the session. Overall, the expert talk proved highly informative, enriching, and academically valuable, strengthening students’ legal awareness, analytical skills, and professional preparedness to engage confidently with India’s evolving criminal justice framework in their future legal careers.
