The visit was arranged for the students of Vidhyadeep Law College with the objective of providing them practical exposure to prison administration and the functioning of correctional institutions within the criminal justice system.
A group of students, accompanied by faculty members, visited the facility where jail authorities briefed them about the structure, organization, and day-to-day management of the prison. Students were also informed about the legal safeguards available to inmates under constitutional and statutory provisions, ensuring the protection of human rights even during imprisonment.
Special emphasis was laid on rehabilitation and reformative measures undertaken by the prison authorities. Students learned about vocational training programmes, educational facilities, counselling services, and skill-development initiatives provided to inmates to support their reintegration into society. The officials highlighted that modern penology focuses not only on punishment but also on reformation and social rehabilitation of offenders.
During the visit, students observed various sections of the prison under supervision and gained insights into the living conditions, health facilities, and welfare mechanisms available to inmates. An interactive session was also conducted, allowing students to ask questions about prison laws, parole, remission, and the role of correctional administration in maintaining order and discipline.
The visit proved to be highly informative and educational, helping students connect theoretical knowledge of criminal law and penology with real-life institutional practices. It enhanced their understanding of the correctional system and sensitized them towards issues of prisoners’ rights and rehabilitation. Overall, the visit was a meaningful academic experience that contributed to the professional development of students and strengthened their practical understanding of the criminal justice process.
